This is my this weeks writing on a girl how wins a book competition called Maya.
Chapter 1
Maya lay there with tears rushing down her rosy red cheeks, her face sunk into her pillow. Her bright blond hair sat on the tips of her shoulders, glowing blue eyes filled with tears stared at the ground.  Maya heard the clip clop of her Nanny’s shoes coming up the stairs, she wiped away the tears. She sat up and picked up her book, a tear dripped down her cheek and onto the the page leaving behind a stain.

The creaky door flew open and her Nanny walk in and sat with her on her little bed. Her Nanny's hand reached out to touch her hand " I know you're sad pumpkin but please come down stairs "
" Ok Nanny, I will come down in a bit" replied Maya . Maya was upset because it was her birthday and she didn't get anything from her Mum not even a card. Her Nanny left the room and went downstairs to make her favourite  dinner mac and cheese. Maya’s mum had lifted her when she was little, sometimes on her birthday she got a card from and if she was lucky she got something little.
A little book covered in bits and bops laid on Mayas bed, in it written with neat writing:
Dear Diary
Today was my birthday, I turned 13 teenager yay  . I’m a bit sad though because I didn’t get anything for mum not even a card or a letter. I know that mum left me but sometimes she sends me things on days like my birthday and Christmas today at school Summer Rose give me a new diary that she handmade, I really like it too. Any way for tea Nanny’s making my favourite, Mac and cheese. All is the same with Jamie she is still bullying me and Summer Rose. Tonight is a full moon and i hope to see a shooting star.

Show Time J Rock

This week the Ngatea J Rock team went to Hamilton to perform their wonderful show. We Spent all day there getting ready and going to meetings and rehearsals. Each school got about three rehearsal  before the performance. About an hour or two before the show, we started getting our hair and makeup done.
The show started at 7:00, we were 2nd to perform. It seemed like all that hard work, for what seemed to be just a few seconds but it all payed off. I had heaps of fun at J Rock and we worked so hard, putting in every lunch time to get our show to where it was that day. We got about five or six awards.

Sushi

This week for impact we made Sushi. We learnt how to roll it the way that people in Japan do it, by Jesse. We cooked everything down at tech and made two rolls of Sushi there. They didn't stay together well, it all crumbled, when we cut into the rolls. Our first one was really bad because most of the rice came out the ends when pushed it down. They ones we made at school were rolled nicely and then we put them in the fridge to cool down so the rice stayed sticky . I had fun making the Sushi with the girls . Next week we are going to be making brownies but they will be healthy and delicious, I can’t wait.

My Hero( My Nana )

Dark brown hair flattened down with mosses, her glowing  hastily  eyes wink at me . The  smell of l her perfume  runs up my nose . Thats my nana Gail, she always  brings a smile to my face and makes me feel like a bird flying in the sky. She always gives me her support and is a guiding light in my life. In her gentle ways she shares with me her recipes for a successful life . She can always make me laugh in the darkest times.

I, like so many others,  love arriving at her house, to the smell of her hot homemade scones with jam and butter which melts in my mouth. She is a healthy helpful happy person, who has a kind heart to share, a  hard worker and always makes time for us grandkids. Nana loves baking  delightful treats for us  and she also pass down our family's recipes to our generation. She is a nana to more than just our family, she shares her love all around  and is a great friend to all in the community. That’s my hero.

Visiting schools

Visiting schools

This week we went to two different schools in Auckland. We went to see what their schools were like, because they are doing the open  learning plan like us . The first school we went to was Stonefields School, they had a nice school with 4 rooms, also know as hubs to them. We looked at the ways they learn and their furniture too.  They had some cool things like a white board table and bean bags with their school’s name on it. They use computers for their learning tool, like us. Then we went to Elim School and learnt a bit about what they do. They had some cool bean bags and they use ipads for their learning tools. Overall the day was fun and for lunch we went to the food court at Botany Downs. We got some good ideas for our school to have in our open learning spaces.

Pizza ( Impact )

Pizza
Yummy Yummy Yummy
Pizza, pizza, pizza. This week for our food impact we made our take on an Italian pizza.  Rose came into help us make the homemade base. We spent all day making our pizza to perfection. We learnt a lot of new skills, one we learnt was how to cut up the vegetables and herbs like real chef’s . We got people to try the pizza, everyone loved it, so did we. The teachers got a piece too and they said “that they would pay for it”. We were happy with our pizza and we will be doing that our the Cooking Show.

ASB Get Wise Program

ASB Get Wise Program

This week on Friday a man from the ASB Get Wise Program came to talk to us about how to save our money. He talked to us about three different people with different jobs and they all work different hours too. We found out who was on what wages and how long would it take for them to save up to go on a holiday. He told us a bit about when you loan money from the bank and a  bit about paying interest on your credit card. At the end of the visit, we played a game. We were going on a holiday and we had $1,600.00 to spend on everything like flights, accommodation and activities we did on our holiday. We did it in classrooms and in the end room 8 won. we came 2nd and room 9 came last because they had no money left over. I had fun that afternoon and I learnt a lot about saving money and putting it into the bank.
